Racking Horror Stories

Our engineers have seen it all when it comes to racking! To the left are some of the images of damage and dangerous situations witnessed by our engineers.

When racking damage is neglected, the reprecussions are severe. Most successful companies recognize this as an unacceptable risk in the workplace. With the inception of Pre-Start Health & Safety Review (Ontario), the Ministry of Labour has made it very clear that any new installation or modification to a racking system must be approved by a professional engineer in Ontario. But obtaining a PSR report is not enough to show due diligence. CSA A344.1, S.8.1.1/.4/.5 and the Ontario OH&S Act, S.8(6-9) call for the inspection of racking (as a critical part of the 'workplace') at least annually or more frequently depending on the environment.

It hasn't fallen yet, so what's the problem?

If we had a nickel for every time we've heard that...

Do the images to the left look familiar? Do you have building-supported or floor-supported cranes that do not have an engineer's stamp of approval? Contact our Structural Engineers today to see how we can help bring you in compliance.

Note that even if you have a company perform annual inspections, they typically take no liability for the structural capacity of the lifting device.
